THEATRE OUTSIDE LONDON

Just about every city and town in Britain has a theatre, either producing its own shows (some of which later come to London) or hosting touring productions, often of recent London hits.

Here are links to some of the leading producing theatres in Britain, so you can see what they'll be offering when you visit

BATH: Theatre Royal EDINBURGH: Traverse Theatre PITLOCHRY: Pitlochry Festival Theatre
BIRMINGHAM: Birmingham Rep GLASGOW: Citizens' Theatre SALISBURY: Salisbury Playhouse
BRISTOL: Bristol Old Vic GLASGOW: Tron Theatre SCARBOROUGH: Stephen Joseph Theatre
CHICHESTER: Chichester Festival Theatre HULL: Hull Truck Theatre SHEFFIELD: Crucible and Lyceum Theatres
COLCHESTER: Mercury Theatre LEEDS: West Yorkshire Playhouse STRATFORD: Royal Shakespeare Company
DERBY: Derby Playhouse LIVERPOOL: Everyman and Playhouse Theatres YORK: Theatre Royal
EDINBURGH: Lyceum Theatre MANCHESTER: Royal Exchange Theatre

In addition, many shows that begin in London also tour the country, sometimes while the original is still running. If a touring production plays a city you're in, check our current drama, comedy or musical listings, or our archive of past shows, to see our review of the London version. (Be aware that in many cases the touring show will have a different cast.)

Also check our coverage of the 2007 EDINBURGH FESTIVAL. Almost all the over 180 shows we reviewed will be touring in 2008. And it might be worth a look at our more than 175 reviews from the 2006 EDINBURGH FESTIVAL, as many of those shows are still touring.
