2011 Theatre Awards

The Evening Standard and Critics' Circle Awards for 2011 have been announced

    Standard:

Best Actor (joint): Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller for Frankenstein

Best Actress: Sheridan Smith for Flare Path

Best Play (joint): The Heretic and One Man, Two Guvnors, both by Richard Bean

Best Musical: Matilda

Best Director: Mike Leigh for Grief

Most Promising Playwright: Penelope Skinner for The Village Bike

Outstanding Newcomer: Kyle Soller for The Glass Menagerie, Government Inspector and The Faith Machine

Special Awards: Michael Grandage, Kristin Scott Thomas, Tom Stoppard

    Critics' Circle:

                Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch for Frankenstein

                Best Actress: Sheridan Smith for Flare Path

                Best Play: One Man, Two Guvnors 

                Best Musical: London Road

                Best Director: Mike Leigh for Grief

                Most Promising Playwright: Tom Wells for The Kitchen Sink

                Most Promising Newcomer other than Playwright: Blanche McIntyre, fringe director

                Best Shakespearean Performance: Eddie Redmayne for Richard II  

                Best Designer: Mark Tildesley for Frankenstein
